It is Asian Pacific Islander Month, and that means that we as a society need to bring awareness to all of the things we love that branch out from the Asian Pacific cultures. Some of those things are K-Pop, K-Dramas, and other popular shows that are created by Asian actors!

One show that has shot to the top of the popular charts on Hulu is the show called Pen15, it is based on the reality of what middle school was really like. It has a flair for the dramatic that only a 13 year old girl can produce when the boy she likes does not like her back. It is gut clenchingly hilarious while also teaching important lessons about women empowerment. The creators of the show, Maya Erkskine and Anna Konkle, wanted to create a show that was funny but was still a homage to girls that shows that they understand the struggles they go through as they grow up. Maya, who is an Asian woman, shows off her Asian culture within the show. She shows how when she was going through middle school, her culture made her an outsider while living in American suburbia. This show, along with many others, needs to be appreciated during API month!
