After an anxiety filled week, Joe Biden and running-mate, Kamala Harris, have won the 2020 Presidential Election. With that, here is Biden and Harris' plan from his website, https://joebiden.com/covid19/, to defeat the COVID-19 Pandemic as a Nation:
1. Ensure that ALL Americans have access to regular, dependable, and free testing
Double the amount of drive-through testing sites
Innovate and invest in home tests and instant tests
Set up a “Pandemic Testing Board” to produce and distribute millions of tests
2. Fix ALL PPE problems
Use the “Defense Production Act” to increase the production of masks, face shields, and other PPE, while also distributing the equipment in hard-hit areas to serve disproportionately vulnerable populations
Build a American-sourced manufacturing sites to ensure that the U.S is not dependent on other countries in a crisis
3. Help provide a clear and consistent guide for how communities should navigate the pandemic
Biden will direct the CDC to provide specific evidence-based guides to
Prevent budget shortfalls by establishing a renewable fund for state and local governments
Call on Congress to pass another emergency package to ensure that schools have the necessary and additional resources to adapt to the pandemic
Provide a “restart package” for small businesses ( plexiglass and PPE)
4. Create a plan for effective and equitable distribution of treatments and vaccines
Invest $25 billion in vaccine manufacturing and distribution plan to ensure that Americans can receive the vaccine cost-free
Make sure that politics do not play a role in determining the safety of the people:
Put scientists in charge of all decision on safety
Publicly release any clinical data for any vaccine the FDA approves
Authorize a career staff to write and a written report of public review and permit them to appear before Congress
Ensure that everyone in America receives the protection and care they deserve
5. Protect Older Americans and Others at High Risk
Establish a COVID-19 “Racial and Ethnic Disparities Task Force” to provide oversight on disparities in public health
The end-game is to transition the Racial and Ethnic Disparities Task Force into a permanent “Infectious Disease Racial Disparities Task Force”.
Create a Nationwide Pandemic Dashboard that Americans can check in real-time to gauge their local transmission activity
6. Rebuild, expand, prevent, and mitigate pandemic threats
Restore the White House National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Bio-defense
Immediately restore our relationship with the World Health Organization
7. Implement mask mandates nationwide
Experts say that if 95% of Americans wear masks, we can save almost 70,000 lives
Biden will work with local and state governments to ensure that this mask mandate is followed throughout the Nation
